"Magnolia Soto was born in 1972 Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain. (...) Her output in painting, drawing and design is prolific, but she is perhaps best known in the Canary Islands for her photographic work. In recent years, she has focused on analysing the mechanisms of the tourist industry, illustrating the transformations it has brought not only to the physical landscape of the archipelago, but also to its social landscape and, by extension, to other parts of the world where tourism is the main economic activity and characterised, like any other form of monoculture, by an inherent dependence and vulnerability. Magnolia Soto's camera captures those characterless "common places" that are such a "commonplace" of today's leisure and tourist society."
